This work, titled Ka noninonitia ki te taha o Korokoro e

Te Ohonga, The Awakening. Currently on show at Te Waka Huia o Ngā Taonga Tuku Iho | Wellington Museum. This collective exhibition responds to artifacts in the museum collection, acquired by George Pain. There are many taonga, and they are largely without provenance. Artists from Toi Maori Aotearoa have responded to these taonga with their own ways of making. I was asked to collaborate with wonderful researcher and artist Kura Puke and Michael Bridgman to make a moving/still artwork responding to a piupiu in the collection, with Kurt Komene-Smith as our wonderful weaver and model. It was a very special experience and I am so honoured to be part of it. The exhibition is on until the beginning of April, so I highly recommend you get along to see it, for all of the new and old taonga on display. Thanks to Anna-Marie White and Ian Wards for really thoughtful, integrity filled curation.
