Matrilineal Residue, 2023. Installation at Toi Rauwhārangi
Matrilineal Residue utilised two biographical objects, recipe book and spoon, to illustrate the transmission of knowledge through generations - from mother, to daughter, to granddaughter. Like frames in a piece of cinema, the images hung suspended, light transmitting between them allowing moments to overlap. Each image presented an interaction between mother, sister, niece, and the objects. Each woman was lit to reflect the passage of time, in an environment that imitated the homestead I remember my grandmother working in.
